Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Candida albicans is a naturally occurring organism in the human body. It is represent in the mouth, vagina, and the digestive tract. Under normal circumstances, it is a healthy and beneficial part of the body.

Sometimes, however, it may cause a vast array of health problems such as vaginal yeast infections, fatigue, anxiety, digestive problems, and so on. This happens when Candida albicans – which is essentially a yeast-like organism – grows out of control.

But why is that? Most doctors are still clueless about what is causing the onset of this disease. However, it is often believed by alternative practitioners that Candida overgrowth can be caused by things like antibiotic overuse, unhealthy diet, and stress.

During Candida treatment – which usually consists of using probiotics and antifungals (both over-the-counter and prescription) – a person will usually experience so called Candida die off symptoms as a result of the rapid detoxification process that is taking place. This process is also known as the herxheimer reaction. It is therefore crucial to always consult with a health care provider to determine what approach is appropriate.
