What’s Available?

There are concrete products for use throughout small buildings. We have divided them into five categories:

1. Exterior walls
2. Floors and roofs
3. Exterior finishes
4. Landscape products
5. Decorative concrete

In each of these categories there are multiple different concrete products available for use by roofing contractors. One of the reasons for this is that there are several methods of turning wet concrete into solid products that have been developed over the years. In many cases more than one different method can be used to make a product for the same general purpose.

Methods of fabrication

The major distinct methods of producing concrete products include:

Cast-in-place with removable forms
Insulating stay-in-place forms
Masonry
Precast
Tilt-up
Autoclaved, aerated concrete
Fiber cement
Troweling

Each of these methods will produce somewhat different products with different advantages and disadvantages. Some are more useful and practical for certain applications than they are for others. But for many uses, more than one type of product could be used, each with its own distinctive strengths.
